UK Man Builds His Very Own Street-Legal F1 Car
Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority revealed that the incident took place on August 13 on a 325-seat plane when the pilot and co-pilot agreed to take turns napping and switch to auto-pilot, the Daily Mail reports . One of them woke up after an unspecified amount of time to find that the other pilot had been asleep at the same time. The incident occurred on an Airbus A330 operated by a British-based airline. The CAA declined to identify the airline. The pilots had slept just five hours each over the previous two nights, the Daily Mail reports. They voluntarily reported the incident to the CAA and are not expected to face serious disciplinary action. Virgin Atlantic, which operates a fleet of 10 A330 planes, declined to comment to the Daily Mail on whether or not the incident involved one of its planes. ARCHIVE: FAA issues landmark rules on pilot fatigue (Dec. 21, 2011) Spokesmen for Thomas Cook Airlines and Monarch Airways, which also have A330s, told the Daily Mail that the plane did not belong to them. The incident came to light as Balpa, the UK pilots’ association, is fighting proposed European changes to flight time regulations, the Guardian reports . The proposed rules would let pilots land an aircraft after having been awake for 22 hours, operate longer-haul flights with only two crew members vs.
An engineer himself, Russ just couldnt find a new car that suited his fancy. So, rather than settle for something ordinary, Bost went ahead and built himself his very own F1 car. Complete with Red Bull racing livery and all. You get a lot of reaction, Bost told BBC News , You can usually work out what they are saying by watching their lips. It is usually what the heck? RELATED: 2013 Formula Ford 1.0 Liter EcoBoost At 190 horsepower, the Ford Formula-based kit car is no track-ready racer, but Russ says he can manage 60 mph in only 3.5 seconds. And unlike your standard F1 car, its made to be driven on the road, even over speed bumps. Not letting an opportunity go to waste, Bost has decided to build 17 more chassis for sale in the UK under the brand name Furore. GAMEDAY: UK vs. Florida
The Hudl is a seven inch device with 16 GB of memory, a 1.5 GHz quad core CPU, and runs Android 4.2.2. For a 7 inch tablet, those are relatively middle of the road specifications, but are at a good enough level for a device priced at 120 ($160 plus tax). Im more intrigued by the impact that Tescos choice of software could have on the market. Tesco appears to have stayed very close to the regular Google UI of Android. Tucked away in the bottom status bar of the tablet is a small T in the Tesco font. This leads to Tescos Android suite of apps, covering five internet based Tesco services (Tesco Direct, Tesco Clubcard, Tesco Blinkbox, Tesco Clubcard TV, and Tesco Bank). All of these services, in some way, make money for Tesco, and I suspect this is part of the thinking behind the Hudl. Yes its nice to have your own tablet, and with so many retail locations in the UK Im expecting to see the Hudl in the list of Top Ten Tablets Under The Christmas Tree in 2013, but the key is recurring revenue. Just as developers are leveraging freemium models in apps, hardware manufacturers are ensuring their hardware continues to earn after they leave the store. This isnt a new idea, the referral fees from the search box being one obvious area many manufacturers could easily be exploiting, and the idea of bundling applications into computer hardware was one way many PC manufacturers helped their bottom line. Bundled apps have been used may times over to promote mobile hardware, so it makes perfect sense for Tesco to leverage the screen real estate of their tablet to promote their brands, especially if it will provide a net positive in ARPU, even though theres no physical contract with the consumer. It might even help bring the price down a touch.
UK basketball notebook: Big Blue Madness planners hoping to one-up themselves

UKs pass attack ranks fourth in the conference with 276.7 yards per game, while Kentucky is third in the conference in converting fourth downs (4-of-5; 80%). UK ranks first in the SEC in red zone defense only allowing opponents to score 69.2 percent of the time they enter the redzone. Kentucky is beginning a stretch of four games against opponents currently ranked in The Associated Press Top 20, including No. 7 Louisville, No. 20 Florida, No.
It also had a wow moment when the term “projection cloth” entered the UK basketball lexicon. After workers quietly laid out the cloth in a darkened Rupp Arena, the court suddenly was transformed into a pseudo video screen. Credit goes to Bob Stoops, the technical services manager at Rupp Arena. Stoops, no relation to UK football coach Mark Stoops, takes Madness ideas from UK and works to bring them to life. He’d seen the projection cloth used at a Super Bowl halftime show. Schwake noted the benefit of working with men’s coach John Calipari and women’s coach Matthew Mitchell. Each is light on his feet, Mitchell especially so in previous incarnations as a Michael Jackson moonwalker and MC Hammer wannabe. “They give us extra tools to play with, extra toys in the bin,” Schwake said of the coaches’ showmanship ability. “It definitely makes it easier. If you hand them a microphone, they’ll be able to speak.” Of course, it’s possible to have too much of a good thing. When asked if a player might mimic Miley Cyrus and begin twerking, Schlafer said, “I can’t punish them if they do, but I know who can.” Going down memory lane, Schwake recalled his first Madness job in 2004: Standing behind Ashley Judd and acting as a buffer between her and fans. It wasn’t heavy lifting since fans and Judd were preoccupied with Madness activities. That 2009 Madness is Schlafer’s favorite. It included Calipari’s state-of-the-program address. “As clear a message statement as I’ve ever heard a coach give,” Schlafer said.
